"The process is observed by Lithuania Statistics, which has compiled a basket of 100 different goods, and according to their data, there is no price rise. We see that in May we had deflation. It means that prices for goods and services so far are declining, not rising. In some cases it might happen. But during the meetings with businessmen we have underlined that we will not put up with any of businessmen or companies, if it turns out that they do not honour the agreement," said Butkevicius in an interview to the national radio LRT.
By signing a good business practice memorandum, businessmen will undertake to recalculate prices fairly and not abuse euro adoption as pretence for price growth.
In general the prime minister regards the preparedness to adopt the euro as good; according to him, more public information will be provided after 23 July, when documents will be signed in Brussels, which will completely open the way to the euro in Lithuania.
