deposits of Lithuanian residents with credit institutions decreased1 by €42.7 million over the month, but increased by €6.5 billion, compared to March 2020 (since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic). General government and non-financial corporation deposits contracted by €177.9 million and €177.7 million respectively over the month, while household2 and financial sector3 deposits grew by €283.4 million and €29.5 million respectively. Household, non-financial corporation, general government and financial sector deposits increased by €3.4 million, €2.6 million, €463.1 million and €22.1 million respectively since March 2020. At the end of February 2021, deposits of these sectors amounted to €18.4 billion, €9.2 billion, €3.1 billion and €831.9 million respectively
Overnight deposits of Lithuanian households with credit institutions grew by €268.0 million, while those of non-financial corporations contracted by €171.0 million over the month, to €14.5 billion and €8.9 billion;
loans granted by credit institutions to Lithuanian residents increased by €26.8 million month on month, but dropped by €556.2 million, compared to March 2020. Loans to Lithuanian households grew by €45.1 million, while loans to the financial sector, general government and non-financial corporations decreased by €11.5 million, €4.7 million and €2.1 million respectively. Since March 2020, loans to non-financial corporations, the financial sector and general government have contracted by €1.1 billion, €97.2 million and €9.9 million respectively, while loans to households rose by €652.0 million. At the end of February 2020, loans to these sectors amounted to €7.3 billion, €1.1 billion, €342.2 million and €11.1 billion respectively
loans for house purchase granted by credit institutions to Lithuanian households increased by €58.5 million over the month, while loans for consumption and other purposes declined by €7.5 million and €5.9 million respectively, to €9.3 billion, €697.9 million and €1.2 billion respectively
interest rates on new business loans granted to households by credit institutions went up by 0.03 percentage point over the month – to 3.26%. Interest rates on loans for house purchase increased by 0.05 percentage point, while those on loans for consumption and other purposes declined by 0.47 and 0.05 percentage point respectively. In February 2021, interest rates on these loans comprised 2.25%, 9.00% and 5.42% respectively
