The price of electricity on the NordPool exchange almost doubled in the course of one week - from 14.82 Eur / MWh to 24.50 Eur / MWh.
‘The change in electricity prices in the NordPool region was mainly affected by colder and drier weather, as well as by reduced wind energy production. Moreover, the reduction in the capacity of the Swedish nuclear power plant due to the closure of the Ringhals 1 (881 MW) reactor at the end of the year has also contributed to the price increase,’ said Artūras Zatulinas, Head of the Corporate Clients Division of the electricity supply company Elektrum Lietuva.
Lithuania produces almost a third of the country's energy needs
Baltics states manage to produce significant amounts of electricity for their own needs. Last week, all three Baltic states together produced 42 percent of electricity they need. Lithuania produced 32 percent, Estonia – 46 percent, and Latvia – 54 percent.
