According to Head of Lithuanian Railways, Stasys Dailydka, it is expected that shipment will be transported via railway while Lithuania Post will act as a distribution centre in Lithuania.
Dailydka said that this way competence of both companies and Lithuania's transportation infrastructure will be used to the best effect.
Lithuanian Railways has established a representative office in China. By signing the cooperation agreement, Lithuania Post will have access to the representative office, its resources and database to attract new partners.
According to Director General of Lithuania Post, Lina Minderiene, China is the global engine of economy which has huge potential.
"We see various possibilities in China and hope that the representative office will be beneficial to all parties. I expect that Lithuania Post and Lithuanian Railways will manage to achieve set objectives in the new market faster and with better quality," Minderiene said.
Most goods arrive to Europe from China by sea. Lithuanian Railways is pursuing the goal to carry a portion of them via railway. The company has signed four agency agreements ensuring secure and quality transportation of goods between Lithuania and China.
