MT Group said on Tuesday it has signed the contract with Poland's gas transmission system operator Gaz-System.
"We are proud to be able to contribute to an important project that is significant not only for Poland, but also for the whole of Europe," Simonas Kunickas, the Lithuanian company's CEO, said in a press release.
MT Group will build the 41-kilometer segment in northwestern Poland together with Germany's PPS Pipeline Systems, the builder of the Klaipeda liquefied natural gas terminal. Under the contract signed in November, the two companies will also build a gas receiving terminal and a transmission station.
The one-meter-diameter pipeline will connect the Baltic Pipe with Poland's national transmission system.
MT Group said all the necessary permits have already been obtained, with the project expected to be completed in October 2022.
Last year, MT Group bid for a Gas Interconnector Poland-Lithuania (GIPL) construction contract, but lost to Alvora. The runner-up bidder unsuccessfully challenged this decision to award the contract to Alvora in court.
