If Orlen Lietuva signed and carried out the agreement with the new client, Lithuanian Railways in turn would increase tariff discount from 12.9 to 16.4%. The reduced tariff was proposed previously but Orlen Lietuva declined. The railway company would also consider withdrawing a claim from Vilnius Regional Court regarding arrears amounting to LTL 9 million (EUR 2.6 million).
"We understand that our input ameliorating Orlen Lietuva situation cannot be fundamental. Nevertheless, within the opportunities available to us, we agree to contribute to preserving activities of the Mazeikiai-based company," said Director General of Lithuanian Railways Stasys Dailydka.
According to Dailydka, price reduction would be in force until July 2015 but only if petroleum refining volumes for the new customer were substantial.
"We believe that not the lower price for logistics services but additional petroleum refining opportunities may assist Orlen Lietuva in the difficult situation. If our proposal is implemented we will consider withdrawing the claim made last week because of which Orlen Lietuva assets were frozen," Dailydka said.
16.4% reduced tariffs would constitute additional concessions amounting to LTL 35 million (EUR 10.1 million) per year.
