"The movement started Saturday afternoon and has risen several times. There's a constant movement of passenger cars," Giedrius Misutis of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service told.
Up to ten times more passenger cars are moving in both directions, compared to the situation when border controls were in place, border guards say. No border incidents have been recorded so far, Misutis said.
Lithuania and Poland on Friday opened their border that was closed in the middle of March to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
To mark the listing of border controls, Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki met at Kalvarija border checkpoint.
