Riga posted a 23.9% drop in cargo volumes to 6.360 mln tons. Ventspils saw cargo volumes go down by 41.7% to 3.724 million tons and Liepaja recorded a 16.7% decline to 1.585 mln tons, according to figures published by the Latvian ports' authorities.
The Port of Tallinn, the operator of five harbors, said cargo volumes rose 2% to 4.815 mln tons.
Russian ports continue to lead in terms of handled cargo volumes in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea as cargo handling volumes rose 2.7% to 26.982 mln tons in Ust Luga, increased 15.9% to 16.257 mln tons in Primorsk and grew 3.5% to 14.760 mln tons in Saint Petersburg.
The port of Kaliningrad handled 2.693 mln tons in the first quatrer, down 10.4% from the same period last year.
