Until now, there had been no official position on the part of Latvia, as Latvia has not closed the European Union's internal borders during the crisis.
The decision of the Latvian government means that Estonians and Lithuanians working in Latvia and Latvians working in neighboring countries no longer have to remain in quarantine for two weeks when crossing the Latvian state border. However, the isolation requirement still applies to time outside work.
ERR correspondent Ragnar Kond said that those moving around the city outside work hours may be checked by the police.
In order to be allowed across the border for work, a person must have on their person relevant documents proving that they actually have a job in Latvia. People are only allowed across the border for work, not for going on a shopping trip or the like.
