The number of tourists from the EU countries totalled 89.4 thousand (by 14.4% more than in the same quarter of 2013), from non-EU countries – 121.9 thousand (by 19% more). The number of Lithuania's residents accommodated grew by 14.1% and totalled 187.5 thousand.
The majority of foreign tourists were from Russia – 55.5 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 51.5 thousand), Belarus – 38.6 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 30.4 thousand), Latvia – 17.1 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 14.2 thousand), Poland – 16.1 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 16 thousand), Germany – 13 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 11.6 thousand), Ukraine – 8.7 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 4.6 thousand), Estonia – 7.5 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 5.9 thousand), and the United Kingdom – 6.2 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 6.5 thousand). The major part of foreign tourists – 61% – stayed in Vilnius.
More than a quarter of tourists (25.8%) stayed in the accommodation establishments of resort towns: Druskininkai – 66.8 thousand (by 6.7% more than in I quarter 2013), Palanga – 24.5 thousand (by 0.3% more), Birštonas – 10.1 thousand (by 38.9% more), Neringa – 1.6 thousand (by 24% less).
In I quarter 2014, the number of tourists accommodated in hotels and motels amounted to 334.6 thousand.
In I quarter 2014, compared to the same quarter of 2013, Lithuanian hotels and motels accommodated by 13.9% more tourists; the number of foreign tourists accommodated increased by 15.5%. The number of rooms in hotels and motels totalled 13.4 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 12.9 thousand), that of beds – 27.6 thousand (in I quarter 2013, 26.5 thousand). The hotel and motel room occupancy rate stood at 38.4% (in I quarter 2013, 35.1%), the bed occupancy rate – 28.7% (in I quarter 2013, 26.3%).
In I quarter 2014, Vilnius hotels and motels accommodated 151.9 thousand tourists, which is by 16.4% more than in the same quarter of 2013; the number of foreign tourists amounted to 118.9 thousand, or by 17.8% more. In I quarter 2014, the room occupancy rate of Vilnius hotels and motels stood at 48.1% (in I quarter 2013, 45.2%), the bed occupancy rate – 35.5% (in I quarter 2013, 32.9%).
