According to the prime minister, Klaipeda Oil will hold discussions with the leadership of Orlen Lietuva on cooperation in building a product pipeline from Mazeikiai, where Orlen Lietuva is located, to Klaipeda, while Lithuanian Railways will look for solutions to facilitate the transportation of products.
"It was agreed that the heads of Klaipeda Oil would meet with the heads of company Orlen Lietuva in the upcoming three weeks to begin talks on preparing a joint plan to implement a product pipeline project. The Government was asked to contribute in solving various organizational issues faster if necessary," said Butkevicius after the meeting with Ireneusz Fanfara, CEO of Orlen Lietuva, on Tuesday.
Speaking of the cooperation with Lithuanian Railways, the prime minister said that both companies had to review the current tariff policy. "Both companies have to understand that none of them should sustain losses due to this," said Butkevicius.
According to the head of the Government, Klaipeda Oil is able to help Orlen Lietuva, one of the largest companies in the country. The prime minister said that their cooperation would bring mutual benefits.
"We have to understand that Klaipeda Oil exports oil products, produced by Orlen Lietuva. We are very well aware that to reduce cost, particularly the cost of transportation, a product pipeline is necessary. I think it is in Klaipeda Oil's interest that company Orlen Lietuva should continue its activities as a significant share of income received by Klaipeda Oil comes from this company," said Butkevicius.
