Investments in constructions and equipment will reach up to LTL 20 million (EUR 5.8 million). The terminal is projected to reach the full working power by the spring of next year, government agency Invest Lithuania announced.
"The combination of Kaunas and the parcel sorting terminal is a strategically important part of DPD network, where the parcel flows of Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic States converge. The present potential of the Kaunas terminal is fully realised, therefore we are glad that the new state-of-the-art terminal of the Baltics will not only provide the opportunity to maintain the position of the market leader, but will also serve as the basis for future expansion", – Indre Puise, the Director-General of DPD Lietuva, told.
At the area of 5000 sq. meters, the terminal with automated sorting lines installed and the most modern engineering solutions implemented will not only double the sorting potential from 25k to 50k parcels per day, but will also increase work efficiency and help to maintain high quality of service even at rapidly increasing amounts of parcels.
"While searching for the most fitting construction site for the terminal, many various criteria were taken into account. In view of our business specifics, the most important criteria were strategically placed Kaunas Free Economic Zone, the vicinities of an airport and a railway as well as a practical road infrastructure", – Puise commented on their decision for the site.
"Geographical appeal remains one of the most important criteria for businesses in search of opportunities for expansion. It should also be noted that it is very important to be able to employ expanded infrastructure for new investments as well as investments made by expanding business for it helps to save funds and accelerate expansion processes", – Vytas Petruzis, the Director of the managing company of Kaunas Free Economic Zone, says.
According to Petruzis, this terminal is an important regional logistics centre that will ensure added value not only to Kaunas Free Economic Zone, but also to the developing businesses and new investments in the whole Kaunas region.
