In January, registration of passenger vehicles (M1 category) soared by 17%, to 1,176. Meanwhile, there were 154 commercial cars (N1 category) registered – a 1% drop.
Most popular new brand in January was Fiat (171 vehicles sold), which surpassed long-time leader Volkswagen (146), while Skoda was third (135). Among more prestigious brands BMW was first with 46 vehicles sold.
Most popular passenger vehicles (M1 category) in January were Fiat 500 (147), Suzuki SX4 (68) and Skoda Octavia (56). Ford Transit (14) was the most popular light commercial vehicle (N1 category).
Successful results demonstrated by Fiat 500 not only ensured the first place for the brand in the market but also had a considerable effect on market growth.
It should be mentioned that often most new cars are deregistered and sold abroad. By the end of January almost all Suzuki SX4 vehicles were deregistered. Thus, the two most sold models became leaders due to the demand of re-export.
The results were announced based on preliminary data of Autotyrimai (Automotive Research – an information, research and consulting firm fully engaged in the automotive sector).
