During the meeting, the bargaining positions of Lithuania and the Gazprom over the fair gas price for Lithuania were discussed.
The Prime Minister said that he understood that the negotiation process was not simple; however, Butkevicius highlighted that the mutual constructiveness, the rational attitude and the evaluation of the real situation were needed. According to Butkevicius, this could accelerate the negotiations.
"Lithuania is negotiating over the complex of the issues and is striving for the fair gas price. The process of the negotiations has slowed down recently. As a result, during the conversation with the CEO at Russian gas giant Gazprom, we discussed all the positions including the prices and the gas transit issues. The Gazprom agreed that the EU Third Energy Package should not be questioned. Lithuania has presented the final suggestions and we hope that the meeting with the CEO at the Gazprom will accelerate the end of the negotiations," said Butkevicius.
According to the head of the Lithuanian Government, the bargaining groups were to make the decisions satisfying both sides in the short run.
