The company did not name the supplier, but BNS has information that it is Norway's Statoil.
LDT said in a press release that the gas will be delivered to its customers from Norway, with the first shipment expected to arrive in Lithuania by mid-June.
According to LDT CEO Mantas Mikalajunas, the company's strategy calls for diversifying purchases, importing some gas from Russia's Gazprom under annual contract and buying the rest on the LNG spot market.
"Last year, we went even further: we took advantage of more favorable conditions at the Incukalns natural gas storage facility following the liberalization of the market in Latvia and stored the gas purchased in the summer until this year, thus securing a reliable supply at competitive prices this year," he said
Fifteen LNG suppliers were invited to compete for supplying gas to LDT.
