In the third quarter of 2013 year-on-year, 11% more goods were transported by maritime transport (Q3 2013 – 1.8 million tonnes, Q3 2012 – 1.6 million tonnes), 7.3% more by internal waterways (Q3 2013 – 512.3 thousand tonnes, Q3 2012 – 477.7 thousand tonnes), 5.9% more by road transport (Q3 2013 – 14.4 million tonnes, Q3 2012 – 13.6 million tonnes). However, 8.6% less freight was carried by railway (Q3 2013 – 12 million tonnes, Q3 2012 – 13.1 million tonnes), and 16.7% less freight was carried by Lithuanian airline companies (Q3 2013 – 0.23 thousand, Q3 2012 – 0.28 thousand).
In the third quarter of 2013 year-on-year, 6.4% more passengers were carried (Q3 2013 – 94.3 million, Q3 2012 – 88.6 million). Road transport carried the most passengers – 97.2%, railway transport carried 1.4%, internal waterways transport – 1%, air transport – 0.2% and maritime transport carried 0.1% of passengers.
In the first nine months of 2013 year-on-year, 2.4% more cargo (82.5 million tonnes compared to 80.5 million tonnes) and 2% more passengers (295.4 million compared to 289.6 million) were transported by all types of transport.
In November 2013 year-on-year, 15.9% more passengers arrived and departed from Lithuanian airports. Lithuanian airline companies carried 22.6% less passengers. Klaipeda State Seaport and Butinge terminal handled 14% less goods, yet airports – 13.8% more. Railway transport carried 3.4% less cargo, while Lithuanian airline companies carried 41.2% more cargo.
In January-November 2013, 3.2 million passengers arrived to and departed from Lithuanian airports, a 10% increase year-on-year. Most passengers arrived from and departed to: the United Kingdom (683.7 thousand or 21% of all passengers), Germany (348.8 thousand or 10.7%), Norway (254.2 thousand or 7.8%), Italy (203.5 thousand or 6.3%) and Latvia (201.9 thousand or 6.2%).
Compared to January-November 2012, the number of passengers arriving from and departing to Norway increased by 47.9%, Italy – 28.6%, Germany – 7.6%, the United Kingdom – 2.5%. However, the number of passengers arriving from or departing to Latvia dropped by 0.3%. Most passengers, 90.6% (2.9 million), arrived and departed on regular flights. The airports loaded and unloaded 14,400 tonnes of freight and mail, or by 8.9% more. Lithuanian and foreign planes landed and took-off 39,600 times in eleven months of 2013, or by 2.3% more year-on-year.
In January-November 2013, Lithuanian airline companies carried 409.5 thousand passengers, by 27.1% less year-on-year. Passenger volume amounted to 841 million passenger-kilometres, a 19.1% decrease year-on-year. Lithuanian airline companies carried 843 tonnes of freight and mail, or by 17.1% less. Meanwhile, freight volume increased by 2.3% and constituted 632 thousand tonne-kilometres.
In January-November 2013, goods handling in Klaipeda State Seaport and Butinge Terminal amounted to 39 million tonnes, a 2.5% decrease year-on-year. Klaipeda State Seaport handled 30.7 million tonnes of cargo, or by 4.8% less, Butinge terminal handled 8.4 million tonnes, or by 7% more year-on-year. Liquid goods constituted 42.4% (16.5 million tonnes) of all handled goods, bulk goods – 32.4% (12.7 million tonnes), general goods – 25.2% (9.8 million tonnes). In January-November 2013, 370.9 thousand TEU containers, 242.2 thousand transport vehicles and 1,900 freight wagons were handled. Year-on-year container handling increased by 7.3%.
However, transport vehicle and freight wagon handling dropped by 0.3 and 24.3% respectively.
In January-November 2013, railway transport carried 43.9 million tonnes of goods, or by 2.9% less year-on-year. National traffic increased by 3.7%, transit traffic dropped by 5.7% year-on-year.
