Average net monthly earnings in the whole economy amounted to EUR 667.3, and against Ii quarter 2017, increased by 1.3%: in the public sector – EUR 667.9 (increased by 1%), in the private sector – EUR 667 (increased by 1.4%).
In III quarter 2017, against II quarter 2017, real earnings in the whole economy grew by 1.2%: in the public sector – by 0.9%, in the private sector – by 1.3%.
In III quarter 2017, against II quarter 2017, the increase in earnings was determined by increased volume of work. In III quarter 2017, against III quarter 2017, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy1 increased by 7.2%: in the public sector – by 5.6%, in the private sector – by 8.1%.
Over the year, average net monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 8.3%: in the public sector – by 6.8%, in the private sector – by 9.1%.
In III quarter 2017, against III quarter 2016, real earnings in the whole economy increased by 3.7%: in the public sector – by 2.3%, in the private sector – by 4.5%.
Over the year, the increase in earnings was influenced by the increased wages for civil servants of certain lowest categories (since 1 January 2017) and healthcare workers (doctors and carers) (since 1 July 2017), and other reasons.
More rapid increase in net earnings, as compared to gross earnings, was influenced by the change in the procedure for the calculation of the tax-exempt amount of income and increased additional tax-exempt amount of income from 1 January 2017.
In III quarter 2017, against II quarter 2017, the largest increase in average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy[1] was observed for agriculture, forestry and fishing (5.4%), human health and social work (4%) and accommodation and food service (2.5%) activities. A decrease in average gross monthly earnings was observed for financial and insurance activities (0.1%), water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (0.4%), public administration and defence, compulsory social security (0.7%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (7.1%).
Over the year, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy grew in all economic activities: from 2.2% (electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply) to 11.2% (information and communication).
In III quarter 2017, against II quarter 2017, the average number of employees in the whole economy decreased by 3.8 thousand (0.3%): in the public sector – decreased by 7.1 thousand (1.9%), in the private sector – increased by 3.3 thousand (0.4%).
Over the year, in III quarter 2017, against III quarter 2016, the average number of employees in the whole economy increased by 9.8 thousand (0.8%). It was conditioned by a 17.9 thousand (2.1%) increase in the average number of employees in the private sector. In the public sector, the average number of employees over the year dropped by 8.1 thousand (2.1%).
