Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, LG), the state-run company, said the train handled 26,000 TEU containers in the first eight months of this year, up from 19,000 year-on-year.
Some 12,100 TEU were delivered from Lithuania to Belarus (up by 37%) and 10,200 were brought back (up by 22%), while 1,100 TEU were taken from Ukraine to Belarus (up by 400%) and 2,500 were delivered back (up by 200%).
According to the press release, the countries involved in the projects decided to keep the tariffs unchanged next year.
Viking is a joint railway project of Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia and Azerbaijan, which links the seaports of Klaipeda, Odessa and Chornomorsk.
