Klaipeda remains Baltics' No 1 container port; Riga comes 2nd

Klaipeda remained the number one seaport in the Baltic countries in terms of container handling in January through August, the port's authority said. The Lithuanian port handled 294,400 TEUs during the eight months, up 3.2% from 285,400 in the same period last year. TEU traffic in Riga Freeport increased by 13.5% to 281,900 and Tallinn posted a 5.4% rise to 138,300 units. The Latvian port of Liepaja saw its TEU traffic double to 2,800 units. Annual TEU traffic via Klaipeda grew by 12.9% in 2016 compared with 2015 to reach 443,300 units.
