"The amicable settlement of the dispute provided a solid basis for bilateral cooperation development not only in the transport of freight by rail, but also in such logistic spheres as railcar leasing, freight forwarding to other countries and ancillary services," he said in a press release after meeting with Miroslaw Kochalski, vice-chairman of the management board at Poland's Orlen, and Orlen Lietuva CEO Ireneusz Fafara in Krynica on Wednesday.
Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai and Orlen Lietuva signed the deal last June after lengthy negotiations.
According to information available to BNS, the two companies found a compromise on oil product transport rates and on mutual claims for 2014 through 2016. The rate that Orlen Lietuva pays for railway services in 2017 to 2023 is somewhat higher than that it had been unilaterally paying since 2014, but lower than that set in the previous agreement.
Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai last year transported 9.21 million tons of oil products for Orlen Lietuva, which accounted for 20 percent of the railway company's total freight volumes.
