The contract will be signed by Brigadier General Gintautas Zenkevicius, Director General for Capabilities and Armaments of the Defence Ministry, and Didier Parasme, Eurocopter Sales Manager.
The deal is worth LTL 180 million (EUR 52.2 million).
"Lithuania's Armed Forces are additionally charged with a national search and rescue in the area of the whole country. New Western helicopters are to perform this function as well as environment monitoring and control. The helicopters will replace Russia-made Mi-8 helicopters used for the search and rescue function but will exhaust their airworthiness resources soon," said Lithuania's Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas.
