"The dynamic economic and business contacts most certainly are to the benefit of both Lithuania and Japan. On the one hand, Japan may find Lithuania as strategically valuable outpost to serve the purposes of business in Europe; while Japan may channel Lithuanian laser and other high-tech manufacturing strengths in Asia," – noted the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister has also pointed out that as the Presidency of the European Council, Lithuania holds it a priority to facilitate EU negotiations for free trade agreements with the strategic partners, i.e. Japan and the United States. "The free and open trade with Japan – EU's second largest trading partner in Asia after China – will be greatly beneficial for Lithuania in terms of lower customs duties and increased business and trade contacts.", – underlined Government leader.
The Prime Minister has also expressed the deepest respect and sympathy to the people of Japan and sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the devastating Typhoon Wipha. "On many unfortunate occasions we have observed an unbreakable strength and determination of Japanese people when copping with natural disasters and their consequences. Therefore, I have no doubts that this time the herculean spirit of Japanese people will not be broken either,"– said the Prime Minister.
