On the average, Latvian households had to pay EUR 16.24 per 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity in the second half of 2016. The highest electricity prices were recorded in Denmark (EUR 30.84 per 100 kilowatt-hours), Germany (EUR 29.77), Belgium (EUR 17.45), Portugal (EUR 23.64) and Italy (EUR 23.4).
The lowest electricity prices for households were reported by Bulgaria (EUR 9.38 per 100 kilowatt-hours), Hungary (EUR 11.25), Lithuania (EUR 11.71), Romania (EUR 12.33) and Estonia (EUR 12.38).
The EU average price of electricity for households was EUR 20.54 per 100 kilowatt-hours, while in the euro area - EUR 22.04 per 100 kilowatt-hours.
In the meantime, the average natural gas price for EU households was EUR 6.36 per 100 kilowatt-hours, and in the eurozone - EUR 7.19.
Latvian households were paying EUR 4.06 per 100 kilowatt-hours of natural gas in July-December 2016. Natural gas tariffs were only lower in Bulgaria (EUR 3.11), Romania (EUR 3.23), Estonia (EUR 3.28), Hungary (EUR 3.6), Croatia (EUR 3.7) and Lithuania (EUR 3.87).
The highest natural gas rates for households were registered in Sweden (EUR 11.42), Spain (EUR 8.57), Italy (EUR 8.38 according to preliminary data), Portugal (EUR 8.26) and Netherlands (EUR 8.08).
