Average net monthly earnings in the whole economy amounted to EUR 636.9 and, against III quarter 2016, grew by 3.4 %: in the public sector – EUR 656 (grew by 4.9%), in the private – EUR 627.2 (grew by 2.6%).
In IV quarter 2016, against III quarter 2016, real earnings in the whole economy grew by 2.3%: in the public sector – by 3.8%, in the private – by 1.5%.
The increase in earnings in IV quarter 2016, against III quarter, was determined by seasonality, higher irregular premiums, bonuses, lump sum benefits, increased wages for school and nursery teachers, social workers and other specialists of educational establishments (since September 1), and other reasons.
Over the year, gross earnings in the whole economy1 grew by 8.7%
In IV quarter 2016, against IV quarter 2015, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy1 increased by 8.7 %: in the public sector – by 8.5%, in the private – by 8.9 %.
Over the year, average net monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 8.9%: in the public sector – by 8.7%, in the private – by 9.1%.
Over the year, real earnings in the whole economy increased by 7.6%: in the public sector – by 7.4%, in the private – by 7.8%.
The increase in earnings in the said period was influenced by the increased minimum monthly wage (since January and 1 July 2016), increased wages for healthcare workers (since July 1), increased wages for specialists of educational establishments (since September 1), and other reasons.
A more rapid increase in net than in gross earnings was influenced by the change in the procedure for the calculation of the tax-exempt amount of income and increased additional tax-exempt amount of income, set in the Law on Personal Income Tax of the Republic of Lithuania, from 1 January 2016.
In IV quarter 2016, an increase in gross earnings was observed in most economic activities
In IV quarter 2016, against III quarter 2016, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy1 increased in most economic activities, except for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (where they decreased by 1.6%), with the increase ranging from 0.6% (in agriculture, forestry and fishing) to 13.4% (in mining and quarrying).
Over the year, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy grew in all economic activities, with the increase ranging from 2.4% (in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply) to 14% (in accommodation and food service enterprises).
In IV quarter 2016, the average number of employees decreased by 0.6%
In IV quarter 2016, against III quarter 2016, the average number of employees in the whole economy decreased by 6.7 thousand (0.6%): in the public sector – increased by 1 thousand (0.3%), in the private – decreased by 7.7 thousand (0.9%).
Over the year (IV quarter 2016, against IV quarter 2015), the average number of employees in the whole economy increased by 15.4 thousand (1.3%). It was conditioned by a 21.1 thousand (2.6%) increase in the average number of employees in the private sector. In the public sector, the average number of employees decreased by 5.7 thousand (1.5%).
