“ The amount of beer produced by the company this year will be 24 mln liters less than this year. Of course, smaller production volumes require fewer employees, fewer stackers and less transport,” Rolandas Virsilas, CEO of Svyturys-Utenos Alus, said in a press release.
In his words, the beer excise duty to be introduced in March will pull down the production, therefore, 20 people will be made redundant. They will receive 400,000 euros in severance pay, with over half of the sum going towards taxes.
Virsilas said the company's both breweries already sacked about 20 employees in early 2017. The group has 400 employees.
Starting March, excise duty on wine and beer will rise by up to 112%.
