Over the month (December 2016, against November), exports decreased by 3.1 %, while imports increased by 6.5%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of furniture (13.8%), plastics and articles thereof (14.2%), cereals (31.4%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (70.9%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (8.7%). Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 3.6, imports – 2.2%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 8.2%, mineral products excluded – 10.5%.
Over the year (December 2016, against December 2015), exports increased by 8.4, imports – 8.7%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of petroleum products (25.7%), plastics and articles thereof (14.4%) and pharmaceutical products (21.8%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (52.2%), iron and steel (88.8%). Mineral products excluded, exports of goods increased by 5.4, imports – 6%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 8.3%, mineral products excluded – by 0.8%.
In 2016, against 2015, exports and imports decreased by 1.3 and 2.2% respectively. The decrease in exports was determined by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (18.6%), fertilisers (24.9%), edible fruit and nuts (43.3%). Although, in terms of exported amount in tonnes, exports of petroleum products increased by 5%, but due to price drop, exports thereof decreased. The decrease in imports was influenced by a decrease in imports of natural gas (46.8%), crude petroleum (9%), edible fruit and nuts (35.3%), fertilisers (34.2%). Although, in terms of imported amount in tonnes, imports of crude petroleum increased by 4%, but due to price drop, imports thereof decreased. Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 1.8 and 1.3% respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 0.7%, mineral products excluded – increased by 2.7%. Exports to Russia decreased by 2.9%, of goods of Lithuanian origin – 13.7%, which was mainly conditioned by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (67.4%), fertilisers (84%) and furniture (34%); meat and milk products were not exported. Exports of food and agricultural products (CN sections I–IV) to Russia decreased by 13.9%, of food and agricultural products of Lithuanian origin – by 1.7% (In 2015, exports of such products amounted to EUR 62.7 mln; in 2016, EUR 61.6 mln).
In 2016, the most important Lithuania's partners in exports were Russia (13.5%), Latvia (9.9%), Poland (9.1%) and Germany (7.7%), while in imports – Russia (14.4%), Germany (12.1%), Poland (10.8%) and Latvia (8.0%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (10.0%), the United States (8.3%), Poland (7.7%), Latvia (7.4%) and Sweden (6.9%).
In 2016, the largest share in Lithuania's exports and imports fell within machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (14.7 and 18.1% respectively), mineral products (13.9 and 18.6% respectively), and products of the chemical and allied industries (10.9 and 12.0% respectively). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within petroleum products (18.1%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (12.0 %), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco (8.7%).
