The airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga handled a total of 4.4 mln passengers in January through November 2016, up 13% from 3.9 mln in the same period last year. The total number of flights rose by 5% to 48,800 flights, the state-owned company, which manages the three airports, said.
The active growth was in part due to the launch of nine new flight destinations from Lithuania to European cities, it said.
"The Lithuanian airport network is growing at the fastest rate in the Baltic region and we are the leaders in terms of the number of passengers on direct routes," Gediminas Almantas, the company's CEO, said in a press release.
Vilnius Airport handled 281,000 passengers in November, a rise of 12% year-on-year. Kaunas Airport recorded a 10% rise to 56,000 passengers and traffic at Palanga Airport surged by 76% to almost 19,000 passengers.
The number of flights went up by 5% to 3,200 in Vilnius, by 13% to 591 in Kaunas and by 6% to 249 in Palanga.
