Review of cargo handling in Klaipėda and other eastern coast Baltic sea ports January – June of 2013.
Comparing with the corresponding period of 2012 the most significant growth of cargo handling volumes in January – June of 2013 in Klaipėda Seaport and Būtingė terminal was reached due to increased handling rates of liquid cargoes (the growth reached 13.6 pct. comparing with the corresponding period of 2012), the highest rates of cargo handling were recorded in the handling turnover of crude oil ( +29.0 pct. or +988.6 thou. tn), natural and chemical fertilizers (+ 19.4 pct. or +122.7 thou. tn) and oil products (+1.0 pct. +42.9 thou. tn).
In terms of other cargo groups the handling volumes of dry and bulk cargo marked the increase made 6.4 pct., in Klaipeda Seaport – 6 868.2 thou. tn. The significant growth of handling rates of cargoes attributed to this cargo group has been recorded in handling of agriculture products (+102.2 pct. or +647.7 thou. tn), raw sugar (+12.3 pct. or +26.5 thou. tn), raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+17.5 pct. or +142.7 thou. tn). Decrease of general cargo load (app. by 3.3 pct.) was observed Klaipeda Seaport from the beginning of the year. 5 238,2 thou. tn of such cargoes were handled in total. Decrease in the group of general cargoes was observed in the following fields: wood and forestry products (-11.8 pct. or -34.0 thou. tn), metal and steel products, metal structures (-50.6 pct. or -91.8 thou. tn), natural and chemical fertilizers (-21.5 pct. or -52.4 thou. tn). The handling turnover of containerised cargoes in terms of TEU increased in January – June of 2013 and reached 196 722 TEU (+7.4 pct. or +10 480 TEU).
3 341 vessels were reported to call Klaipėda Seaport and Būtingė terminal in January – June of 2013. 44 vessels (+29.4 pct. or more by 10 vessels comparing with the period January-June 2012) moored at Būtingė terminal. Klaipėda Seaport received 3 297 vessels (-2.4 pct. or -81 vessel corresponding period of 2012).
