The first stage of reconstruction is already in progress, while works of the second stage will be carried out starting from 14 July till 17 August, 11.59 p.m., of the following year, which means that on the 18th of August aircrafts will already be able to use the runway.
A contractor who will win the tender will have to perform a number of works, because the runway will be reconstructed in essence: the soil will be removed and old asphalt coating will be dismantled, a frost-resistant protective layer will be formed, sewerage and drainage pipes will be replaced, and new and clearer information signs will be built.
“More than 2.5 million passengers have already visited the Vilnius Airport and almost 30 000 planes took off and landed here this year alone, while the number of cargos has continuously increased. Last time the runway was reconstructed about 20 years ago, and now it must be reconstructed in full.
We hope that the tender for the procurement of contract works for reconstruction of the runway will be open and raise no doubt to the public, while potential contractors are subject to top requirements”, – said Artūras Stankevičius, Director of the Vilnius Airport.
According to A. Stankevičius, the optimal time and method of reconstruction was selected for reconstruction works, having assessed all technical project requirements and other conditions, such as precipitation, temperature and daylight hours. “Experience of foreign countries was analysed, which is most economically and technically efficient way. Moreover, we did not want to postpone this issue to the future - having replaced the surface coating alone, the runway would require reconstruction works performed thereon in 5-6 years”.
In order to ensure competition of potential contractors and the clarity of requirements of procurement documents, Vilnius Airport invites all potential contractors to attend the meeting to be held on the 4th of October, where it will explain how to properly submit tenders, the required documents and publish other relevant information related to presentation of tenders. Tender conditions are also published on the Central Public Procurement Information System.
The second stage of reconstruction of the Vilnius Airport will take place during the period from 14 July till 17 August 2017. During the first reconstruction stage, Elektros Darbai and Fegda perform contract works of reconstruction of the runway signal lighting system and primary circuits, the value whereof is nearly EUR 1 million.
