On June 4, representatives of the Member States involved in operation of the Energy and Nuclear Issues working groups visited Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. During the visit they heard the presentation on Ignalina NPP decommissioning projects and funding of the process during the next EU financial perspective 2014-2020. Also, they had the chance to enter the NPP and to become familiar with the ongoing projects and dismantling works in practice. According to the members of the delegations, before the visit they could not possibly imagine how vast this Project is and how large is the scope of ongoing works.
Today the representatives of the EU Member States are participating in the Conference „Development of Integrated Power Markets form the Baltic Perspective". During this conference integrated electricity market, diversification of energy supply and other relevant issues are being discussed.
During his welcome speech Energy vice-minister Aleksandras Spruogis welcomed the participants of the conference and stressed that two main energy priorities during Lithuanian presidency are the completion of the EU internal energy market and strengthening of the external dimension of the EU energy policy. According to him, taking the Presidency of the EU Council also means taking the responsibility for the results that can be achieved only through close cooperation and dialogue among Member States.
Also during the conference the representatives of Lithuanian energy companies (AB „Lietuvos energija", AB „Litgrid", „Nord Pool Spot AS", AB „Klaipėdos nafta") and the Ministry of Energy participated at the discussions on the questions relevant for the whole region. The topic of energy security which is also among top priorities of the Lithuanian presidency was on focus during the discussions.
