The project provides for renovation of the existing warehousing complex and the office building in Riga as well as for construction of new warehouses and two office buildings.
"The new investment project is an important step in development of Rimi Baltic and Rimi Latvia as it represents an opportunity for centralization of logistics in the Baltic region. The proportion of centralized deliveries to Lithuania and Estonia via Latvia keeps growing which means that the new project will ensure and support Rimi growth in all Baltic states," Bite said, explaining that, in addition to the economic effects on the costs of logistics and products, the project would also have positive environmental effects stemming from more sustainable use of resources for transportation of goods.
Investments in a Rimi Baltic central warehouse with the total area of more than 70,000 square meters are planned at EUR 64 million, and EUR 11 million are to be invested in construction of a central administrative office in Riga. After the renovation and expansion of the existing administrative building, the company's administrative offices will take up nearly 10,000 square meters and improve working conditions of the employees, for example, new changing rooms and showers.
The project is to be implemented by 2018.
Rimi Latvia nearly doubled its profit to EUR 23.64 million in 2014, and its turnover grew to EUR 740.96 million, according to information from Firmas.lv.
Rimi Latvia currently operates 30 Rimi hyper-markets, 42 Rimi super-markets and 45 Supernetto low-price supermarkets in 27 towns across Latvia.
Rimi Baltic, which belongs to Swedish ICA Group, controls Rimi retail store operators in the three Baltic states – Rimi Latvia in Latvia, Rimi Lietuva in Lithuania, and Rimi Eesti Food in Estonia. Rimi retail chain in the Baltics comprises 250 retail stores.
