Busy trading in Ventspils nafta shares, which started after the company's shareholder Euromin Holdings (Cyprus) Limited (Euromin) began to buy up Ventspils nafta shares and made a mandatory buyout offer, ensured more than half of the Riga bourse' s annual turnover last year, or EUR 26.797 mln.
Estonian ferry operator Tallink Grupp emerged as last year's most actively traded stock on the Baltic exchanges, generating EUR 49.673 mln. in annual turnover. Tallink Grupp shares surged 26.96 % over the year to EUR 0.857.
Estonian gaming operator Olympic Entertainment Group came second with deals in this stock generating EUR 30.589 mln.. Olympic Entertainment Group shares climbed 5.29 % during the year to EUR 1.79.
The third position was taken by Latvia's Ventspils nafta whose shares skyrocketed 303.54 % to EUR 4.56 apiece, the price approved by the regulator for the mandatory buyout offer.
In all, 258,016,512 shares changed hands in 106,132 transactions on the Nasdaq Baltic stock markets last year.
The Baltic bourses' indexes grew in 2015, with Baltic blue chips index OMX Baltic Benchmark GI gaining 14.43 % over last year.
OMX Vilnius increased 7.42 %, OMX Tallinn put on 19.06 % and OMX Riga grew 45.66 % over the past year.
The steep growth of OMX Riga began in September after Euromin announced its intention to acquire more than 90 % of Ventspils naftas shares.
