Minister of energy Jaroslav Neverovič met with the EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger. Lithuanian priorities during the Presidency of the European Council were discussed during the meeting. Commissioner G. Oettinger expressed his firm support for these priorities that Lithuania has set for its time of Presidency.

„The cooperation between Lithuania and European Commission so far went very well. We are grateful for the Commission and the Commissioner G. Oettinger personally for the support in developing BEMIP initiative, proposed financial framework Connecting Europe Facility that will ensure financial support for the strategic energy projects and for the assistance during the implementation of the 3rd energy package. I strongly believe that if we will continue this kind of cooperation during the Lithuanian Presidency, we will achieve our common priorities with special focus on single European energy market" – said Minister J. Neverovič after the meeting.

The main priority of the Lithuanian Presidency in the energy sector is to strengthen energy security. This will be achieved by developing energy infrastructure, integrating energy systems, creating common European energy market and strengthening external dimension of the EU energy policy.

During the meeting the questions that will be discussed during the European Council on May 22 were also discussed. Among them – the finalization of common European market until 2014, investments to modern infrastructure and the possibilities to reduce energy costs for households and industry.
