A railway connection between the international airports of Vilnius and Kaunas is considered in Lithuania in an effort to make more efficient use of the projected European-gauge railway Rail Baltica.

Lithuania is the only country among the three Baltic nations planning a surplus of public finances in 2018, however, is still behind Estonia and is next to Latvia in terms of the share of the gross domestic product (GDP) redistribute via the budget, show reports of budget assessment published by the European Commission.
