This July, Lithuanian Airports are commemorating five years since consolidation of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports. After ending the stage of faulty internal competition and becoming an airport network, offering attractive terms and conditions of cooperation for air carriers, the Company has also improved its results in aviation performance. From 2014, the number of passengers increased by 42%, including the number of offered travel routes; meanwhile, the number of provided flight‑related services increased by 60%.

The ongoing archaeological excavations of the Great Synagogue in the back yard of Vokiečių Street, situated in the centre of the capital, are continuously discovering significant artefacts. Archaeologists have found the bases of two columns belonging to the bimah, the most important platform for Torah readings. So far, the bases of the two out of four columns around the platform have been found. The latest discoveries will be accessible for general public next week, on July 17.

Precisely 5 years have passed since the time when on 1 July 2014, the merger of all the Lithuanian airports into one company – Lithuanian Airports – was announced. The results show that the unification of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga Airports has proven successful: from the merger up to now, Lithuanian Airports calculate a profit (EBITDA) which has increased by as many as 235 percent, continually rising return on property and million dividends to the state that have grown each year.

Vilnius Airport prepares for an important stage of reconstruction - reconstruction of a part of the apron located in the Northern part of the airport has been planned. The upgrading of the apron will help ensure safety of flights, more convenient movement and more effective parking of aircrafts at the airport; also, more advanced aircraft service infrastructure will be installed, as well as greater attention will be paid to environmental protection.

More than 260 architectural ideas from all over the world have been received by the capital city municipality so far, after it announced an international architectural design competition for a National Concert Hall on Tauras Hill. A record number of architectural projects were received up to 2 July in the terms of the contests of this type. Ideas came from the USA, South Africa, China, India, Spain, Libya, Ukraine and other countries. This is the first contest in the Baltic region organised with the International Union of Architects.

Gas supply via a gas pipeline to Lithuania from Belarus has been halted on Monday as Belarus started repairing a gas main in its territory.

Registered unemployment stood at 8 percent last month in Lithuania, up 0.1 percentage points from May but down 0.3% from June, 2018, the latest figures from the country's Employment Service showed on Monday.
