The Bank of Lithuania published the balance of payments for March 2021, which shows that:

In 2030, people in cities will use public transport, bicycles and travel on foot more frequently, while cars will only be used for 40 % of all trips, the number of electric cars will increase significantly, trains will become an eco-friendly and attractive means of transport – such is the plan of the most important works of "Freedom to move" presented by the Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania Marius Skuodis at a press conference on Tuesday.

The European Commission has approved an approximately € 1.9 billion (CZK 50 billion) Czech scheme to support companies affected by the coronavirus outbreak. The scheme was approved under the State aid Temporary Framework.

The aviation summer which started at the end of March brought a positive change to the flight results of April. The moderately improving situation in the aviation sector is also proven by the fact that in comparison to April of the last year, when the airports around the world were closing down, this April the flight flows increased by 123 percent and amounted to 9.5 thousand flights.

The Innovation Agency should be launched early next year; it will be the only body responsible for the development of the entire innovation ecosystem and for all stages of innovation activities from concept development to introduction to the market. The concept of the Innovation Agency was approved at the Government meeting on Wednesday.

After meeting with leaders and founders of the main Belarusian startup centre Imaguru Tatjana Marynič and Anastasija Chamiankova Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė invited the institution prosecuted by the regime to safely continue activities in Lithuania.

Two electronic money institution licences issued

The Board of the Bank of Lithuania granted electronic money institution licences to Nayax Europe UAB and BW SYSTEM OU, UAB, authorising them to issue electronic money and provide payment services set forth in the Republic of Lithuania Law on Payments.

In the next 4 years, it is planned to invest around 400 million euros in the Port of Klaipėda; it is expected that EU funding will make up part of the investments. Some of the most important projects are the reconstruction of wave breakers and the expansion of the port area, which will grant a qualitative advantage to the port. Such plans have been set in the strategic operational plan approved by the State Enterprise Klaipėda State Seaport Authority.

New workplaces, better communication with the neighbouring Poland and an incentive for local and external tourism – these are only some of the benefits of Rail Baltica that were discussed at the remote meeting with the representatives of the municipalities of the region of Marijampolė. The discussion, which is part of a series of events “Rail Baltica in Lithuania: its value for the regions”, was initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and LTG Infra.

Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė has signed Lithuania’s Associated Membership Agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA).The associated membership of ESA will strengthen the international competitiveness of national science and business and will directly benefit the country’s economy – it is estimated that EUR 1 directly invested by space programme participants generates the value of at least EUR 3.5.The agreement on Lithuania and ESA’s associated membership will have to be ratified by the Seimas before September 27; until then, Lithuania will retain the status of the ESA cooperating state.
