LTG Cargo, the freight branch of Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (LTG) Group, extends the existing international routes and is going to launch regular services to Italy – the company’s first intermodal test train has been put into operation to leave for the port of Trieste. The new route is tested just a couple of months from the memorandum of cooperation signed in September by the heads of LTG and Italian logistics companies, during the visit of the Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis in Trieste together with the Lithuanian delegation.

Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė, after meeting in Lisbon with Maelle Gavet, the CEO of Techstars, a global start-up accelerator, invited the company to expand its activities and invest in Lithuania.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on Wednesday in Vilnius by Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė and Minister for Trade from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea Dukgeun Ahn provides for closer cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade and industry.

The contract of the Lithuanian Road Administration on the reconstruction of the A5 section Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai (Via Baltica) between 72.50 km and 79 km came into effect. Construction on the section is expected to get underway this year with the estimated completion date set for the next autumn. The contract is valued at around EUR 55.8 million.

As part of the official visit to Japan, on Wednesday, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has opened the Lithuania-Japan High-Tech Business event, noting the potential of the successful business partnership to complement the growing Lithuania-Japan bilateral relations. The Prime Minister has also attended the Lithuania-Japan Food Business Forum and met with Keidanren, Japan’s largest business federation.

Economic relations between Lithuania and Belgium are set to become even more active, and entrepreneurs from both countries can expect success in cooperation in biotechnology, renewable energy and other innovative businesses. This was stated by the Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Aušrinė Armonaitė, at the opening of the Lithuanian-Belgian Business Forum in Vilnius on Tuesday.

The idea to charge electric cars from lampposts has become a reality – the first 9 such charging stations have begun operating in Vilnius. By the end of 2023, the City of Vilnius will install around a total of 100 stations of this type – this amount should stimulate the growth of the number of electric cars in the capital. The municipality plans to increase the number of such stations to at least 2,000 by 2030, and if it succeeds in receiving support from the European Union – twice the amount.
