PoliticsOn Tuesday, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, together with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, participated in the Lithuanian-Georgian Business Forum, which focused on the promotion of investment, strengthening of bilateral partnership and search for new export markets. The Forum convened Lithuania's largest food companies. The lists of candidates of Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania in the local council elections, that will take place in Lithuania on 1st March, will be signed with number 14. Head of Government Algirdas Butkevičius and the delegation leave on an official visit to Georgia on 25-27 January to discuss Lithuania-Georgia bilateral economic cooperation, transport and energy issues of mutual relevance, as well as Georgia's integration into NATO and the European Union. President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström to discuss bilateral issues, the security situation in the Baltic Sea region and energy cooperation between the two countries. Lithuanian leader Dalia Grybauskaite has submitted her amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens, which seek to strengthen Lithuania's national security and prevent persons who pose danger to the country and people from getting residence permits in Lithuania. Minister of the Interior Saulius Skvernelis and United States Ambassador Deborah McCarthy discussed Lithuania-US relations in the area of internal affairs and prospects of future cooperation. The priorities of Latvia's EU Council Presidency will be outlined to the various parliamentary committees by Latvian ministers in a series of meetings to be held during the last two weeks of January. President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite met with judges of the Supreme Court and discussed main problems of the judicial system, the possibility to accelerate legal proceedings, ensure principled evaluation of the work of judges and increase trust in courts. On 1 January 2015, Lithuania took over the Presidency of the Baltic Assembly. This year, the Seimas plans to hold 14 international events, with the majority of them hosted by the Seimas in Vilnius and four of them held in Kaunas, Klaipeda, Palanga and Siauliai. There is no reason yet to speak about warming up relations with Russia and reviewing the European Union's sanctions against the country, says Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius. |
