PoliticsOn 18 June in Batumi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Tamar Beruchashvili opened the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania. It is headed by Georgian businessman, Honorary Consul Temur Ustiashvili with jurisdiction over Adjara, Guria and Megrelia. At the International Conference "Georgia's European Way" on 18 June in Batumi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius stressed that Georgia had achieved significant progress on its path to Euro-Atlantic and European integration in a very short time, thus it was especially important to continue heading in the same direction with the same enthusiasm and willingness. EP President Martin Schulz discussed British plans to renegotiate EU membership during a meeting with UK Prime Minister David Cameron today. They also talked about the migration crisis in the Mediterranean and the ongoing talks on trade deals. Afterwards Schulz said: I came to London to listen and to learn and I think we had an excellent and open-minded exchange of views." When commemorating the Day of Mourning and Hope and the Day of Occupation and Genocide on 15 June 2015, a solemn flag hoisting ceremony was held in Independence Square next to the buildings of the Seimas. Shortly before noon, a minute of silence was observed in honour of the victims of the occupation and all those who gave their lives for Lithuania's freedom and independence. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius met with European Commission Vice-President responsible for the euro and the social dialogue, Valdis Dombrovskis, to discuss the economic situation in Lithuania and in other euro area countries, the European strategic investment fund, Commission's recommendations, and Lithuania's economic growth projections. Last week, Klaipeda (Lithuania) hosted the joint meeting of the Baltic Assembly (BA) Welfare Committee and the BA Education, Science and Culture Committee. The meeting was devoted to discussing the labour market of the Baltic States with regard to its outlook and the key challenges and policy responses related to it. EU-Russia relations were high on Parliament's agenda this plenary week in Strasbourg. In two separate resolutions, MEPs called on EU member states to maintain their unity following Russia´s illegal annexation of Crimea and drew attention to the militarisation of the Black Sea basin. Meanwhile the debate and vote on Parliament´s recommendations for the ongoing Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations were postponed due to the high number of amendments.
