EducationCommissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, announced yesterday the EU's additional contribution of €100 million to replenish the Global Partnership for Education. Some 35 million euros in EU funds have been allocated for selected high-level research projects by scientists from Lithuanian universities and scientific institutes, the Education and Science Ministry said on December 1st. 25–26 November in Tallin, Estonia annual robotics competition Robotex 2017 took place. Kaunas University of Technology Erasmus Student Network (ESN KTU) is joining the Social Inclusion Days initiative, organised by ESN, where more than 500 local associations in 40 countries host events raising awareness about volunteering and disability from 27th of November until 10th of December. Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) continues its efforts in developing strong ties with the top universities in East Asia. Last week VMU representatives visited Lingnan University in Hong Kong, where global liberal arts leaders convened for a conference, and South Korea, where the VMU delegation met with the university’s partners. The latest partnership has been established with Seoul National University (SNU), one of the leading research universities in the world, which is planning to aid VMU in the opening of the Centre for Korean Studies in Lithuania. The VMU International Cooperation Department has announced call for applications for 2018-2019 academic year exchange studies at Japanese partner universities. Online application deadline is 2 February 2018. Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science returned to the issue of higher education reorganisation. Kaunas University of Technology supports the project proposed by the Ministry, which offers the strengthening of three Kaunas universities – Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Vytautas Magnus University (KTU, LSMU and VDU) – in the first stage of the process, with the perspective to create one internationally competitive university in Kaunas in the future.
