EducationVilnius University (VU) has strengthened its position in the region’s top 20 institutes of higher education, and now appears at a record-high 18th place in QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia, EECA, whose fourth updated edition has just been published. “Vilnius-Lithuania iGEM” team won the largest, most prestigious, international Synthetic Biology competition iGEM. Vilnius University students bested more than 300 teams from leading world universities. The team won the Grand Prize and received a gold medal as well as three special awards: for Best New Basic Part, Best New Composite Part and Best Part Collection. President Dalia Grybauskaitė signed a decree on submitting an Agreement on Lithuania‘s associated membership at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) to the Seimas for ratification. The Charlemagne Youth Prize exists for ten years already and this week all winners - past and present - were invited to the European Parliament to celebrate. Competition is an inherent part of a researcher’s life. In order to be successful in this career, one has not only to be inquisitive, active in raising questions and looking for answers, but also to have international experience. European Commission has formulated its vision on creating a European Education Area by 2025. With the debate on the future of Europe in full swing, the Commission’s leaders are concentrating their efforts on collective steps to overcome the forthcoming challenges and making the EU more resilient to possible risks.
