The bronze statue is 3.6 meters high and weighs 1.5 tons. The monument is the work of Russian sculptor Zurab Cereteli, who has Georgian origins. The statue was a gift to the Polish Catholic Mission in France. By creating this monument the sculptor wanted to express his appreciation for the role of Pope John Paul II in the fall of Soviet totalitarianism.
