According to the President, ambitious pro-European politics defeated populism and nationalism. The overwhelming victory by Emmanuel Macron demonstrates resilience of the French people against any attempts to manipulate them through elections and their continued faith in the European project and democratic values.
The President underscored that France was a major partner of Lithuania. We greatly value the resolute actions and support extended by France towards ensuring security in our region, assuming responsibility for dealing with key issues on the global agenda and taking on leadership in fighting climate change.
According to the President, today's economic and political challenges and the threat of terrorism require that European countries stand united. Dalia Grybauskaitė expressed her belief that Lithuania and France, under the leadership of the newly elected president, would continue to develop successful cooperation and that the open dialogue on security and European issues would allow ensuring the interests of our citizens.
