The head of Government thanked the EIB for the loan to cover the shortfall of co-funding for projects implemented from the EU Structural Funds in Lithuania in 2014-2020. "I am certain that we will continue working closely together in the future," said the PM.
The EIB president commended Lithuania's initiatives and achievements in structural reforms, particularly in energy.
In May, Lithuania's Ministry of Finance signed a loan agreement for up to EUR 1.3 billion with the EIB to be used for co-financing of projects implementable under Lithuania's EU Funds investment programme for 2014-2020 and Lithuanian rural development programme. The 2014-2020 financial framework will allocate EUR 6.8 billion for Lithuania.
Butkevicius informed the EIB head about Lithuania's intention to continue to invest in liquefied natural gas terminal project development, and asked Hoyer about EIB plans to continue to invest in the European fund for modernization of buildings.
The EIB is the European Union's financial institution financing investment projects for sustainable EU development. The EU member-states are EIB's shareholders.
