Due to the acquisition of citizenship of another country's Lithuanian citizens are deprived of Lithuanian citizenship. It is estimated that yearly there are about a half thousands of such people.

Such data was presented by representatives of the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior at in a meeting with the committee of the Seimas and the World Lithuanian Community. They said that some of the people resign of Lithuanian citizenship on the own will, but in most cases they are deprived of it immediately after receiving information on obtaining the citizenship of another country (in 2012, there were 26 and 419 of such people accordingly).

On Wednesday, May 8, the committee talked about the possibility of dual citizenship validation. Parliament is considering the possibility of organizing a referendum on this issue with the presidential elections that will take place in Lithuania next year.
