EAPL first to recommend not to hurry up with euro
When speaking about the recent offer of the party „Order and Justice" to hold a referendum on euro in Lithuania, V. Tomaševski recalled, that the EAPL was the first parliamentary party to present such an offer. The EAPL leader stated, that it is useless for Lithuania to introduce the common currency.
„We should not hurry with the introduction of euro, there are a lot of arguments against it: increase of prices, decrease of purchase power of inhabitants, subsidising of the states having financial problems," V. Tomaševski presented the arguments against the rush to introduce euro. The member of the European Parliament also underlined, that we will have to introduce euro in pursuance of the EU accession obligations, but we do not have to hurry, we have to think it over.
V. Tomaševski stressed that in the times of the financial crisis we may be next to last or last member state of the EU to introduce euro. All the more, it would not be good to subsidize states that have not overcome crisis yet, e.g. Greece or Portugal, keeping in mind that, for example, a Greek farmer gets the direct payment of 500 euro for 1 ha of agricultural land, while a Lithuanian farmer gets only 140 euro for 1 ha.
Victory in the effort to help tourism sector
Rita Tamašunienė stated that the EAPL proposal of 5% tax rate for tourism services approved by the Seimas and the fact that the President did not veto the amendments to the Law on the value-added tax was a great achievement.
„This is a great achievement, especially having in mind, that this decision will have a long-term effect and will embrace not only hotels, but also minor subjects providing accomodation services. Persistently acting EAPL managed to lay the foundation that the beauty of our country, resources and potentials would be used in order to improve the economic situation of our state," the member of the Seimas said.
The EAPL representatives unitedly stressed, that the VAT reduction for the tourism sector is necessary also because it is lower in the neighbouring countries, therefore Lithuania loses the competitive struggle for foreign tourists so far; this will create additional work places and will strengthen our economy in the long-term perspective.
V. Tomaševski also stated, that the VAT for the tourism sector will be reduced for sure during the autumn parliamentary session. Only the rate (5 or 9 percent) is not known yet.
The escalation of provocation is not beneficial for the inhabitants
The poster with the anti-Lithuanian words, that was presented in the Poznan Lech stadium last week was under the spotlight at the press conference.
V. Tomaševski said that he deplores the incident, but he also stressed that the party did not respond and will not respond to such provocations as it is useless to the inhabitants of the state.
„EAPL deplores the incident and all the similar cases, but also stresses, that this is a planned provocation. EAPL thinks, that constant repetition of the ridiculous words from the poster is exactly what provocateurs want. Therefore it is not worth for parties to react to such provocations, they can appear practically everyday. It is obvious, that this is a well prepared and planned provocation. Its scale indicates, that it is impossible for special services not to be aware of it," the member of the European Parliament said.
The EAPL leader underlined, that he regrets that this incident causes public hysteria throught the misinformation presented by some of the media.
„Exactly the media associated with conservatives (LNK, BTV, alfa.lt, Info žinios) and liberals (Lietuvos ryto TV, lrytas.lt, lrt.lt) incite hatred regarding the Poznan stadium poster during the last days. It sometimes seem that what we observe in the above mentioned media after the incident, is happening not only according to someone's order, but can be also called as purposely initiated and promoted in the society hysteria which is beneficial for some of the parties," V. Tomaševski underlined.
Wish to continue provocations
V. Tomaševski underlined, that one of the proof that those interested in exaggerating the provocation are politicians, is the public invitation of Andrius Kupčinskas to compete on football stadium.
The EAPL leader stated during the press conference that he is not going to respond to this provocation.
„A. Kupčinskas, one of the conservatives' leaders wants the football provocation to continue. This will not happen. And if he wants to compete in any sport, I would offer him some harder competitions, for example a boxing round that takes only 3 minutes, so he does not waste his time, as there are a lot of things to do in Kaunas. There is a need to care for the city, not to politicize," V. Tomaševski said.
