Lithuanian Minster of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Lithuanian presidency of the EU Council supports the Macedonian aspirations to integrate to the EU and NATO.
'Lithuania, during its presidency of the Council, will seek to achieve the support of other member states for the beginning of the membership negotiations with Macedonia. We would like to see progress in this area, however, it is important to emphasize that further Macedonian advancements are dependent upon its determination to continue on implementing necessary reforms' - said Linkevičius.
Macedonian Prime Minister congratulated Lithuania on its presidency and thanked for its support for Macedonian aspirations to integrate into the EU and NATO. N. Gruevski also indicated that Macedonia will continue to improve and change in order to become the member of the EU and NATO.
The meeting also included discussions about the possibilities of economic cooperation. L. Linkevičius stressed that economic relations between Lithuania and Macedonia will be strengthened in the future.
Macedonian delegation also met with Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, the speaker of the Parliament Vydas Gedvilas, and Lithuanian business confederation representatives.
Macedonian delegation presented to the Lithuanian business confederation the investment environment in Macedonia and possible areas of collaboration. The meeting was ended with the decision to visit Macedonia to examine the trends and possibilities to invest there.
