The proposal was submitted by Mr Kirkilas at the meeting between himself and Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, on the one part, and Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission, on the other, in the Lithuanian Seimas on 22 February 2016.
"The European Union has recently relaxed the sanctions against Belarus. Bilateral dialogues between Lithuania and Belarus has not yet run smoothly. Therefore, we recommend that the format of trilateral cooperation including the European Commission is set up in Brussels. This way it can be expected to fully achieve broadly positive results in terms of the plant's safety," said Mr Kirkilas.
