"Lithuania provides full political and practical support to Ukraine. Lithuania supports Ukraine's security an s defence reform by contributing to projects of training Ukrainian soldiers on its own and together with NATO allies. The cooperation with Ukraine's military personnel also allows Lithuanian soldiers to get valuable experience of countering an aggressor," Minister J.Olekas said at the meeting with the Ambassador Ukraine.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces deployed instructors to train soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine alongside U.S. military personnel and now continue training regular Ukrainian units as part of a U.S.-programme.
A team of soldiers of the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces joined the training mission to share experience with their Ukrainian counterparts in the end of 2015.
At the meeting Minister J.Olekas underlined the importance of the project of the Lithuanian-Polis-Ukraine Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG). "It is a practical tool allowing our armed forces to exchange experience while training for joint future missions," Minister J.Olekas said.
The Ambassador of Ukraine thanked for Lithuania's support particularly emphasising the assistance in giving aftercare for the injured participants of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in Ukraine.
