EducationThe results of international university ranking QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017 were announced on 9th March. This ranking evaluates and compares universities by subjects and subject areas. This year only three Lithuanian universities are ranked in this ranking. March 30th (Thursday) at 01:40 PM at the VMU Faculty of Social Sciences (Jonavos st. 66) VMU students are invited to attend the public lecture „The Dynamics of Religious Change: Deliberate and Forced“.(23-413 V. Putvinskio Street) VMU students are invited to attend the public lecture “Religion and State in Denmark – Sociological Perspectives” with Professor Margit Warburg from University of Copenhagen. On 10th March, Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, accompanied by the Maltese Minister for Home Affairs and National Security, Mr Carmelo Abela representing the Presidency of the Council of the EU, and the Estonian Minister of the Interior, Mr Andres Anvelt, representing the incoming Presidency of the Council of the EU, as well as the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Mr Gilles de Kerchove, are meeting key internet companies in the United States, in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. The visit was organised to follow up on the second meeting of the EU Internet Forum in December 2016 and to take forward actions agreed for 2017. KTU researchers are creating biodegradable food packaging materials, which, in addition, will also keep food fresh for longer. This innovation would solve two problems at once: assist in cutting down packaging waste and in reducing the number of food-borne illnesses. Lithuanian laser manufacturers Ekspla and Sviesos Konversija (Light Conversion) have produced Sylos, a 4-million-euro laser system that is the first of its kind in Lithuania and one of the most powerful ones in the world. On the 23rd of February Study Abroad Fair, organised by the Department of Internationalisation, took a place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Next summer will be extraordinary for two Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) students: biomedical electronics student Julija Kravčenko (Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering) and programming systems student Paulius Saulėnas (Faculty of Informatics) will spend a week in a summer school organised by the University Twente (Netherlands). KTU is collaborating with Twente University through the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU): both universities are members of the Consortium. International exhibition "Riga's Art Nouveau in Architecture and Art" is open at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU). The travelling exhibition of the museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” has already visited Minsk, Bratislava and Vienna, and until the end of April is open to Vilnius’ residents and guests. It covers the Art Nouveau architecture, art (painting, decorative graphics, prints) and design objects. The exhibition is at VGTU’s Faculty of Architecture. Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank invites students to the international educational project «Summer school 2017. Discover Belarus: from education to culture» (from 26 June to 5 July 2017, Minsk, Republic of Belarus). On Friday 10 March, 2017, Vytautas Magnus University and Kaunas City Municipality will co-host the first event dedicated to the approaching Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania– the 2nd Forum of the Baltic and Black Seas, a discussion with the historical leaders, former heads of state from Central and Eastern Europe. |
